Step 1

Add the oval shape for the eyelid and eye lashes

Step 2

Add an oval eye. Show where the eye is looking at with by adding a circle inside. Finally, adding a hint of an iris can really enhance the chick’s cuteness.

Step 3

Now let’s start adding the chick’s body. I made mine short, and round, leaving extra room in the back for the chick’s tail. creative idea: try other cute body shapes like tall and skinny, which shape do you like the best?

Step 4

Draw the tail

Step 5

Add the curve of the chick’s back

Step 6

In this step we are going add a few of the chick’s features. The beak is pointing upwards towards where the chick is looking. Don’t forget the hole in the beak where the chick can breathe. Also the wing is a bit on the cartoonish-side being way too small for the chick.

Step 7

Now it’s time to start drawing the feet. Before adding the legs of the chick draw two trapezoid like shapes. It almost looks like this little chick is wearing pants. Add three lines going downwards for the legs. Creative idea: are there any other clothes you can put on your chick? Perhaps a sundress or overalls?

Step 8

You’re doing great! Next we will draw the feet. The back foot is hidden behind the front foot so there is no need to worry about drawing it.

Step 9

For this step we shall start outlining the chick’s hat. Start with the top of the hat to make sure it fits your characters head properly.

Step 10

Now let’s start adding the brim of the hat. Use an oval-like shape to show how the hat goes across the head on each side. Creative idea: try making your hat very long and floppy!

Step 11

After adding the front brim of the sun hat, draw the back. Usually hats have the same size brim in the front and back, but feel free to experiment with fun ideas!

Step 12

Finish connecting the hat. Adding a downward dip makes the hat look more floppy. Creative idea: are there any other kinds of hats this chick could wear? Perhaps a top hat? A baseball cap?

Step 13

Now it’s time to add the bow. First, erase the part of the chick that is showing through the sun hat. Next, add the ribbon wrapped around the hat.

Step 14

Add the center knot of the bow

Step 15

Draw the right side of the bow. Add some wrinkles to the ribbon close to the bow. Creative idea: how will your bow look? Will it be huge? Small? Double bow?

Step 16

Draw the folds of the bow

Step 17

Keep up the good work! Add the left section of the bow.

Step 18

Add ribbon on the right of the sun hat

Step 19

Erase the part of the sun hat that is covered by the bow. Add a wrinkle or two on the bow near the knot.

Step 20

Almost done! Draw the last part of the ribbon. Making the ribbon look wavy can add the atmosphere of it being windy.

Step 21

Finally, add some details to the chick. Adding flecks makes it look more fuzzy.

Amazing Job!

Great job on completing your chick drawing! Now, start thinking about what colors you want to add and what adventures you want your chick to go on. Let your imagination soar as you bring your chick to life with vibrant colors and exciting story ideas. Have fun creating!
